Read First, Drink Later...

Its been a long day at work and you're looking forward to coming home and having a glass of wine or other favorite cocktail. Before you reach for that glass, keep this in mind:1 drink per day could lead to an extra 10 pound weight gain over the year! Alcohol also lowers your blood glucose and self-control, both making it more likely that you will overeat, adding on additional calories. Since alcohol is often the center of many social events it is likely that you will have a few drinks from time to time, but making it a rare treat rather than a nightly habit to unwind could have a serious benefit for your waist line. Also, when drinking it is important to be mindful of the portion sizes and the mixers being added to your drink. Mixed drinks such as margaritas and martinis could easily be more than 500 calories for 1 drink! Rather than a drink try things like taking a walk, calling a friend, watching your favorite show, or doing some light yoga to help you de-stress.
